A few answers to common questions
Recommended Gear

If you're just starting out and looking for gear, here are some brands we recommend for quality and longevity:

Gi - Hyperfly, Tatami, Elite, Sanabul or Fuji

Shins + Gloves - CombatCrnr or Fairtex

Rash Guards - Scramble, Hyper Fly, Level Black or VHTS

Mouthguards - Damage Control or Impact

Armbar Soap for healthy skin on and off the mat. You can purchase this at the academy if you'd like to!

Do you offer discounts for Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Firefighters?

Yes, with proper documentation there is a 10% discount.

How much are private lessons?

Pricing for private lessons is a negotiation between you and the instructor you want to train with. Factors to consider may be experience of the instructor, whether the private is adjacent to an already scheduled training time (to eliminate travel time), and the number of privates you would like to purchase (bundle discount). Most privates likely fall in the $40-$60/hour range.

Do I have to compete?

You may engage in as much or as little competition as you like. You will likely be encouraged to compete for the sake of growth, but you are in no way obligated to participate in any form of competition. We have a very experienced pool of resources to help you train well, identify opportunities and develop your game.

Where do I park?

There is ample parking at the academy, and should it fill up there is street parking on Hamilton Ave.

How often are the mats cleaned?

We take hygiene very seriously. The mats are cleaned after every single practice with a virucide/bacteriocide/fungucide cleaner. This leads to the mats being cleaned at least 3 times per day.

Are there kids classes?

Yes! We have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi and No Gi classes for kids 6-13. This is an excellent way for kids to learn confidence, coordination, balance, endurance and focus all in a lighthearted and fun environment.

What gear do I need?

For all classes we recommend a mouth guard and workout attire. For Muay Thai classes 16 oz boxing gloves, shin guards and a jump rope are required. All gi jiu jitsu classes require a gi, any color or brand is suitable. If you need recommendations on any brands, styles or affordability please reach out to us directly and/or refer to our recommended gear list in the FAQ's.

Is there a free trial period?

Absolutely! You're welcome to try 2-3 classes before you sign up for a membership. Please be sure to sign our waiver of liability (which can be found at the bottom of our home page) before you participate.

Do I need any prior experience?

Absolutely not! Students of all skill levels are welcome. We have a great team with a broad range of experience to cater to beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Remember: everyone has a first practice.
